The Willamette Valley gets into the swing of things with the Oregon Valley Boys!

“The Willamette Valley Kings of Western Swing” set to release
a new album with original music about the valley they call home.

SALEM, OREGON—The Willamette Valley is famous for all sorts of things: wineries, waterfalls and… Western Swing? It might be a long way from Texas, but the Oregon Valley Boys are proving that real swing is less about the state you live in and more about your state of mind.

“Texans take a lot of pride in their music,” declares bandleader and native Texan-turned Willamette Valley resident Randy Hill. “Oregonians do too, but there hasn’t been a lot of western swing here in a long time.”

The Boys are remedying that situation, creating new fans wherever they play their toe-tapping, genre-bending blend of blues, country, jazz, rock and pop. It’s Western Swing with a twist—perfect for a state that’s known for going its own way musically, having spawned such unconventional acts as The Decemberists, The Dandy Warhols and Paul Revere & the Raiders, to name a few.

The Oregon Valley Boys are putting their own spin on swing and putting the Willamette Valley on the musical map. “We love Western Swing and we love the Willamette Valley,” Hill says. Their upcoming album, which the band is currently in the studio recording, pays tribute to both their passions. Over half of the songs are original music written about the Willamette Valley--songs like “Molalla Waltz” and “All Roads Lead to Howell Prairie.”

The album is scheduled for release in early 2010. When they’re not in the studio recording, the Oregon Valley Boys can be seen swinging around the state at various venues.
